Content Strategist Mario Joos

Growing up in Belgium, Mario Joos loved playing video games. As a child, he always looked up to professional gamers and how everybody always talked about them. It seemed nearly impossible to be one of them, but he was up for the challenge. He set three goals: to become a professional gamer for a professional gaming team, to win a major tournament, and to be at a world championship.

Over the course of his outstanding career, he has made all of those happen. However, while working as a content creator for so many years, known as RaptorDaRaptor to his many fans around the world, he discovered an interest in the analytics behind the scenes. Having achieved everything he wanted to as a gamer, he retired and began a new career path as a social media content strategist.

Joos is now known as a leader in his new industry, with many outstanding successes under his belt. He has worked with famed YouTube gamer creator Kwebbelkop, helping him grow his side channel to an outstanding 400,000 subscribers in only three months from its conception, and with Checkpoint, helping grow his monthly audience from 17 million views a month to 70 million views a month over the course of just one year.

“The best part of contributing to such a successful project is the feeling of fulfillment it brings, and the knowledge that I’m being part of something big. Even when I’m not the face of a project, knowing that my actions and expertise have contributed to big successes is all that’s important to me right now. After a while, you get more used to these successes, but it makes you crave and seek out even larger opportunities. You begin to wonder: what else is possible?” asked Joos.

Joos is currently spending his days working with none other than MrBeast, one of the most famous content creators in the world. Jimmy Donaldson, better known by his online alias MrBeast, is a beast of the content creating industry, credited with pioneering a genre of YouTube videos that center on expensive stunts.

He went viral in 2017 after his “counting to 100,000” video earned tens of thousands of views in just a few days, and he has become increasingly popular ever since, with most of his videos gaining tens of millions of views. He is now also known for his philanthropy, with many of his videos focusing on donation challenges. He was the highest grossing creator on YouTube in 2021, and is currently the 5th most subscribed to channel in the world.

“The best part about MrBeast is that his content targets everybody. It’s content that anybody from any age group could enjoy. Next to this, the scale of each video. Within weeks, the MrBeast team managed to recreate an entire TV show in the span of a single video. This video generated 200 million views. The beautiful part of this all, nothing is faked, everything is real and people really get a massive amount of money from winning challenges in these videos. Once I got hired for the MrBeast team, this has only improved as they have given me such freedom in the way I can contribute to their content,” Joos described.

Joos came on board the MrBeast team in October 2020. During his initial months, he worked on further expanding his own knowledge on audience retention and audience interest. After almost six months, he then proceeded to assist the post-production team for the main channel videos by helping editors bring a raw video cut towards a polished product through applying rulesets generated from knowledge through data analysis.

The team used this knowledge to further develop the pre-production process such as content development, scriptwriting and on-set live audience retention. Now, he is involved in all aspects through the pre-production, production and post-production processes, offering guidance based on his extensive research to help build audience interest and engagement.

“Simply, this is the biggest YouTube project anybody could have the chance to work on. It’s one of the fastest growing channels on YouTube and there is so much opportunity for growth. It was also the most challenging project to work on as I was working alongside the best in the industry. Trying to help improve a product that is already so successful isn’t an easy task, but that makes it fun,” Joos described.

MrBeast was a big success before Joos came in, but since joining the team, the channel has continued its growth toward 100 million subscribers. Many videos that Joos helped with have garnered over 100 million views. MrBeast is one of the fastest growing creators on the platform with one of the biggest audiences on the platform, and Joos is proud to be contributing to that legacy. 

“For me, it’s more about being part of a success rather than feeling great because it was a success. Being surrounded by some of the smartest and best people in this industry is just amazing. I can’t be more grateful to be part of such an amazing team,” he concluded.
