Home and Business Security

We live in a world that requires all of us to be more aware of our safety and security. This article looks at three essential components of modern home and business security that you must be cognizant of. With more of us working from both home and the office it is critical that the safety of these premises is well considered. We have become accustomed to the ability to take work home, work in the cloud and generally treat the home as an extension of the office space.

Documents are left where they lie in the home office, laptops left connected to the network and logged in as we take a break, and a great deal of the office safety measures that we may have had in place have simply been neglected to a great extent. This article will look at three levels of security that must become part of the discussion around remote and hybrid work.

Smart security

This is the first layer or level of security and will include the cyber security component of the home and office as well as any other security initiatives that are integrated and managed through smart home tech, cloud-based software. Smart security is generally regarded as any security protocols that are internet-based and can be accessed and controlled from a smart device. They include front door cameras and those monitoring data centers, office infrastructure and warehouses to alarm systems preventing unwanted access. Easy to implement and simple to monitor, this must be the first step for home or remote workers.

Security awareness training

Train all staff and family in the importance of the safety procedures and processes in place. For example, they need to understand and buy in to cyber security measures and network safety, as they access the internet and work-related data. Once those who are using the hardware, software and the actual physical office spaces are aware of the risks and security threats, they are more inclined to be involved in the avoidance, defense and prevention of these security issues.

Personal monitoring

Having security on-site to control access at a business premises is important dependent on the nature and size of the premises and whether there is access by the public. Similarly, for those who work from home, neighborhood watch or neighborhood security will again depend on the residential setting and the interaction between neighbors and the company you work for as to the importance of such patrols and additional security. There is some great advice in this regard available from https://usprotective.net/. It is a trend in suburban areas that has also seen an increase in home businesses and home offices to institute an additional layer of security with the implementation of access control and security patrols.

The three levels of security mentioned herein are the basics. The ability to run a business and secure your family and home are priorities in an uncertain time. The self-same security that workers and employees had been subject to in the office environment must be considered and implemented for these workers in their homes. There’s been a wholesale shifting of the security responsibilities onto the remote or hybrid worker themselves. Companies need to thus take more responsibility and initiate the discussions around securing home workers to the same extent as they would be in the office.
