Top 10 Things to Do Before the Summer Ends

Do Before the Summer Ends

Summer is almost over. Most kids have headed back to school or will be in session in the near future, and it won’t be long before the leaves start to change for autumn. You still have a couple of months of good weather before winter sets in, and you and your family should make the most of it.

Take a few minutes to write down an end-of-summer bucket list. Here are a few items you might include on that list.

1. Go to Hawaii

There’s no better time of year to visit Hawaii than in August and September. This window of time between the end of summer and the beginning of fall boasts great temperatures on land and in the water. In September, the ocean temperatures will have peaked to about 81 degrees, the warmest you’ll experience all year long.

Hawaii is the ideal beach vacation. You can surf Hawaii waves, go snorkeling, attend a luau, eat poi, relax on an isolated beach, explore active volcanoes, and hike through a jungle of palm trees. Book your vacation soon to enjoy all the best Hawaii has to offer!

2. Join a Dance Class

Once winter hits, a lot of your fun will turn indoors. Dancing is an excellent pastime because it helps you exercise and escape the cold while doing so. However, you’ll have a lot more fun dancing all winter long if you take a dance class.

You can get instruction in any kind of dancing, be it ballroom, swing, hip hop, street, or cultural. Grab a partner and check out a local dance center to see what kinds of classes they’re holding. Then, look up dance events in the coming months that you can attend to show off your moves.

3. Take a Trip Down South

The deep south is full of vibrant culture, history, and beauty that you’re unlikely to experience anywhere else. In Baton Rouge, you can visit museums and plantations or take a tour of the USS Kidd, a retired WWII destroyer.

You can also check out the Blue Ridge Mountains, which are part of the Appalachian Mountains range. This section of mountains touches parts of Alabama, Georgia, North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New York. If you happen to have vision problems, you should definitely go see an eye doctor in Summerville so that you can fully appreciate the sights on your journey. The southern part of these mountains in Georgia are gorgeous in the summertime and well worth a visit.

An ever-popular Southern destination is the Gulf Coast. There are hundreds of places to see on Florida’s Gulf Coast that will satisfy all your cravings for beach time, shopping, and incredible views..

4. Have Your HVAC Inspected Before Winter Hits

This item on your list is a less fun, but still very important to do before the temperatures cool down. At that point, you’ll be turning down your AC and turning up the heat, and you want your HVAC system to be in perfect working order before it gets too cold.

Contact a certified HVAC contractor in your area. They’ll offer a full inspection, which may include cleaning and general maintenance. It’s always better to proactively maintain your system before issues arise, so put this high on your priority list.

5. Apply to College

If you’ve been promising yourself for years that you would go back to school, make this the summer when you make your dream a reality. College applications for the winter semester typically open in August and close in late fall, so use this time to submit a few applications.

Before applying, figure out what you want to get your degree in. If you’re not sure, consider a field in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). There’s always plenty of room in STEM education for inquisitive minds that want to change the world.

6. Check out the Pacific Northwest

If heading down south doesn’t nip the travel bug for you, head in the complete opposite direction towards the Pacific Northwest. Washington and Oregon are gorgeous in the summer and fall, and you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean, strolls along rocky beaches, greenery like you’ve never seen before, and plenty of shops and fine dining.

North Bend in Oregon is a great place to visit. It’s an attractive scenic destination on the ocean with plenty of attractions like an aquatic museum, a casino, and a lovely beach. Check out Hotels in North Bend, OR, and book your Pacific Northwest travel soon.

7. Take Advantage of End-of-Summer Sales at a Car Dealership

If you need a vehicle, there’s no better time to visit your local car dealership than at the end of the summer. In just a couple of months, new vehicles will be coming out, and dealers must clear their lots of existing merchandise to make room.

To move cars quickly, prices will be slashed much lower than usual. There’s usually room to negotiate further. Many people don’t realize that can actually negotiate with a car dealer. They can get a price that matches needs, especially for a trade-in vehicle.

You could begin this coming winter in style with a brand new (or new to you) car. There’s no better feeling than driving off the lot knowing you got a great deal.

8. Visit a State Capital

When traveling with kids, it’s always good to try to make your visits educational. If your kids are at the age where they’re learning their state capitals, choose a new one to visit this year before school starts or for Labor Day weekend.

There’s a lot that can be learned from such a fun visit. When you visit Lansing, MI, for example, you could go on a tour of the state capitol building with its ornately domed roof and rich history. The Michigan History Center also offers a unique perspective on the state’s past.

Lansing is also a great place to learn more about science in the Impression 5 Science Center. It’s a huge facility with interactive exhibits where kids can play and learn science all day long.

Exploring a state capital can help your kids get excited about learning again as school starts. It could become your new back-to-school tradition.

9. Go to a Beach in Australia

Nothing sends summer out with a bang quite like a visit to the beach. Maybe it’s time to take a trip down under and explore a beach in Australia, which boasts some of the most magnificent oceanfront property in the world.

Head to New South Wales where you can relax on the sandy beach before heading to the ocean for some snorkeling or surfing. The holiday parks in Port Macquarie make great places to stay on your visit to this memorable beach destination.

10. Shop at a Specialty Supermarket

There’s a cool supermarket in Covington, LA that you should check out. It’s full of specialty items and foods that you can’t find anywhere else. It’s a haven for people who love organic, allergy-friendly and unique items.

They also have a huge selection of cheese with more than 400 varieties to choose from. It’s one of the few Certified Cheese Professional stores worldwide, so when you shop there, you know you’re only getting the best-quality cheeses.

Stock up on all your necessary back to school foods and items at this fun specialty shop. There’s no better way to kick off the end of the summer vacation than shopping somewhere new.
