Sophie Walker has a gift. Yes, this Australian born model has the aesthetic beauty that entices so many fashion companies to seek her out but Walker’s true skill and talent is her ability to connect with the camera and an audience. Her vibrant energy is intoxicating regardless of the surroundings or the clothing she is featured in. Rather than a bigger-than-life quality which one might assume captures attention, it’s Sophie’s relaxed assuredness that has led brands like Australia and New Zealand based Glassons to procure her for their advertisements and online catalogue. Whether in a bikini on the beach or enjoying a coffee in a crew neck sweater on a comfy chair, Sophie projects a centered positivity that is universally engaging. This aligns perfectly with Glassons youthful and dynamic image. Sophie’s talent has made her a standout model for this project for Glassons, contributing significantly to the success of this most recent campaign which spans wardrobe staples to seasonal must-haves. This fashion company appeals to a discerning and thoughtful customer base with their wide scope and commitment to responsible practices that minimize environmental impact. Glassons attained an impressive forty-eight percent sustainability sourced product in 2022 and continues this practice today.

To shoot Sophie for this campaign, Glassons acquired acclaimed photographer Levon Baird, known for his work with Marie Claire, Vogue, GQ, Elle, and the many other of the most prominent names in Fashion. Videographer James Anderson, also known for his association with Vogue, captured footage of Baird and Walker collaborating in the creation of these fantastic photos. Sophie notes the positive and highly creative approach of this union stating, “Having a collaborative approach helped us to bring the vision of the campaign to fruition. The direction and tone for this shoot was a relaxed getaway, very candid and calm. To get these authentic expressions we really focused on being in the moment and allowing movement and genuine interactions to get that natural shot. Adapting to the surroundings was important. Whether we were shooting within the house or outside in the garden, we shifted emotions and tone to suit it by using numerous props to create the atmosphere and explore naturally as you would in real life.”

The emotional tone and the aesthetics of this project vary greatly, ranging from tasteful and attractive swimsuits while traversing a pebble laden beach and being perched atop rock formation with ocean waves rolling in to Sophie donning more Fall suitable attire while interacting with wildlife or enjoying a quiet moment inside a farmhouse. Simultaneously approachable and confident, Sophie epitomizes the self-reliance that women admire and covet. This tone is injected into the entirety of the pieces Ms. Walker wears in these photos, infusing this idea into the clothing itself. That visage is not always so easy to project as Sophie reveals, “This shoot in particular was shot over a couple days in Summer down south within Kiama, as you can imagine shooting winter clothes in the heat is far from ideal. Travelling down south four hours by myself to meet a big team of people I’d never met before is always a bit daunting and adds another element of pressure. To stay focused and energized over a big couple of days in the sun was challenging, so managing the discomfort was key to a successful shoot. The team at Glassons went above and beyond to ensure my comfort in the conditions. This shoot really pushed me out of my comfort zone as someone who was quite introverted at the start of my career it has given me that push to be more confident and assured in my abilities.”
No one is more pleased about the popularity of this Glassons campaign than Sophie herself who proclaims, “To be cast for a brand I personally shop at and love was a bit surreal. It was so rewarding to see the final images knowing that they reflect for myself a long journey and the fact that my hard work and effort was actually paying off. To work with such a skilled team of individuals and build great relationships within is always so valuable and the experience left me feeling so grateful after a huge couple of days.”
