Symptoms of Hypothyroidism

Hypothyroid is also known as an underactive thyroid. The thyroid controls the usage of food by your body cells. In fact, the thyroid plays an important role in almost every metabolic process. When the thyroid stops or slows down the work, it becomes difficult to feel healthy as your body is consuming enough nutrients from the food. The thyroid creates several hormones that are altogether known as Thyroid. Hypothyroid is when your thyroid gland stops doing its job or works in a sluggish manner.

Thyroid glands can be affected due to various factors. Some of the usual reasons for hypothyroid are:

  • Intake of certain medicines can cause hypothyroid.
  • Hormonal imbalance acts as a major aspect to create thyroid problems.

  • Thyroid glands need iodine to create thyroid hormones, lack of iodine can cause hypothyroid. Use iodized salt to increase the consumption of iodine. Other sources of iodine include shellfish, dairy products, saltwater fish, etc.

Irregular Menstrual Cycle

The irregular menstrual cycle can be a sign of hypothyroid. Girls with hormonal imbalances are most likely to be affected by thyroid problems.


If you constantly feel tired and depressed you should get a thyroid test done. Hypothyroid often leads people to anxiety and depression.

Swelling of the Thyroid Gland

This is not noticeable at the initial stage, but as the hypothyroid grows, it becomes prominent and can be diagnosed that there is some issue with your thyroid hormones by simply looking at the swelling.


People with hypothyroid suddenly gain too much weight. Also, it becomes difficult to lose weight once you invite hypothyroidism.

Fatigue and Nausea

Fatigue and nausea are other signs that you might be suffering from hypothyroidism. As I mentioned above, thyroid glands perform almost every metabolic process, and hypothyroid is slow down of the gland’s performance. The decrease in metabolism provokes nausea and fatigue.

Sensitivity Towards Cold

Hypothyroidism causes sensitivity towards cold. If you suddenly start feeling too cold, there are chances that you are suffering from hypothyroidism.
