International criminal court came about when one hundred twenty states adopted a statute in Rome. It was known as the Rome Statute of the ICC.

The ICC is the first independent and permanent international judicial institution that is able of trying individuals accused of the most serious violations of international human rights and humanitarian law, including the war crimes, crimes of genocide, and crimes against humanity.
