Integrated Program in Management : An Alternative to IITs and AIIMS after 12th
Could not crack your IIT/Medical entrance exams after 12th? If your answer is a big YES, well then you are not alone. There are a huge number of medical/engineering aspirants who do not clear JEE/NEET exams every year. With the selection ratio of these exams being as low as 1%, a giant number of students fail to qualify for these exams. Every year almost 1 million + students are left with little to no option regarding their future because of such stiff competition.
Well, my sympathies are with these warriors. Unfortunately, none of us can change this situation but, I do know an alternate career option after the 12th that too as great as IIT/AIIMS!!
So the option that I would like to put forward today, is called the Integrated Program in Management (IPM). The IPM Program is a 5-year long management course after 12th at India’s biggest management institute IIM Indore. Yes, you read it right. Such a program exists, that too at an IIM. Let’s discover a bit about this alternate option.
What is IPM Program?
The Integrated Program in Management (IPM) is a 5-year long management program at IIM Indore that began in 2012. Under this program, 12th passed students of every stream are admitted through a national-level entrance exam called IPMAT (IPM Aptitude Test) and are taught management studies for 5 years at IIM Indore. Upon graduating, candidates are awarded “Integrated Diploma in Management” by IIM Indore and a Bachelor’s degree from IGNOU, New Delhi. In 2016, the first batch of IPM program graduated with nearly 100% placement with an average package of 10 lacs/annum.
Admission Procedure
Admissions to the IPM program are through a 2-stage process. The first one is the IPMAT or IPM Aptitude Test followed by a Personal Interview (PI) for the ones who clear the written exam. The batch strength of the IPM Program is 120 with the reservation policies being applicable.
Program Structure
The IPM Program is a five-year-long program with studies divided into two sections:
1. 3-year UG Studies
In the first 3 years of the IPM Program, the candidate is enrolled in a Bachelor’s course at IGNOU, New Delhi along with management knowledge being imparted at IIM Indore campus. The curriculum for these 3 years of study is as follows:

2-year PG Studies
In the next two years, the candidate is taught the same curriculum as the one taught to PGP students admitted through CAT. On completion of these two years, the candidate is considered equivalent to the 2-year PGP studies at IIM Indore. Further, IPM graduates and PGP graduates sit in the placements together.

Placement Report 2016
As mentioned above, the first batch of the coveted IPM program graduated in 2016. Since the last two years of the program are similar in studies to IIM Indore’s flagship PGP program (Admissions through CAT), the students of the IPM program sit along with them in final placements. Around 162 companies arrived last year to recruit 617 students of both IPM and PGP programs combined, with average CTC ranging from 10 lacs – 16 lacs per annum. The placements percentage has been declared 100% by IIM Indore.
