Whether I’m choosing accommodation for a weekend or a week, for work or pleasure, I like to see what resort facilities and services are included, as it makes all the difference to my stay.
Nowadays you really wouldn’t expect a resort to have anything less than a swimming pool and a spa, would you? And the more it offers by way of accommodation and services, the better.
And that’s why, if I’m heading to the Gold Coast, I always opt for accommodation in Broadbeach.
We all work hard for our money and when we do get time off, we want to put it to the best possible use and get the best deal. If I’m paying for an apartment, I want all the bells and whistles that go with it!
Winter Getaways
Resort facilities and services can vary enormously, so it’s definitely worth shopping around. For example, I like winter getaways, so an indoor swimming pool – as well as outdoor – will get my tick of approval.
And I usually take the opportunity to improve my fitness, so that calls for a gym, and a sauna, so I can ease my aching muscles afterward! So already my shopping list of requirements is growing.
I won’t be using the car much, so I want a safe and secure place to park, and I want to easily and quickly find out about local attractions and activities, so a tour desk is always handy.
Close to the Beach
Most accommodation in Broadbeach offers some variant of this, so you also need to take other things into account when choosing. For example, it is the resort close to the beach. Personally, I want to be able to roll out of bed and practically be on the beach!
And what’s included in the accommodation and services? Hey, I’m paying, I want the lot – big comfy bed, fully equipped kitchen, gorgeous bathroom, air-conditioning, lots of space and privacy, a balcony, and why not my own washing machine and dryer while I’m at it.
So, as you formulate your list of must-haves, you start to thin down your choice of accommodation – especially if you’re looking for something with, say, a AAA 4-Star rating, which I would say is the norm.
A Touch of Sophistication
Surroundings make a big difference, too. If you’re a 24/7 party animal, I’d suggest heading for Surfers Paradise! But if you enjoy the more sophisticated things in life, like good food, fine wine, sunset beach walks, and top entertainment, I would suggest Broadbeach.
Accommodation in Broadbeach puts you in the perfect location to stroll to the famous restaurant precinct, or discover one of the many beachfront bars and cafes. You’re close to major shopping, too, with the Oasis Shopping Centre and Pacific Fair on the doorstep.
Broadbeach is also great if you plan on visiting the famous Jupiter’s Casino. Even if gambling is not your thing, it’s well worth a visit for its four excellent restaurants and top shows and entertainment.
The location gives you the freedom to explore the best features of the Gold Coast, from its pristine beaches to the lush hinterland.
70km of Coastline
The Gold Coast has around 70km of coastline, with some of the best surf breaks in the world. Broadbeach is popular with families, due to its safe and sheltered beach.
But the waterways don’t end there. There are canals, rivers and lakes to explore, and so many ways to do it, from scenic flights to boat hire. Nature-lovers will love the peace and serenity of kayaking, while adrenalin junkies can opt for a high-speed boat ride, scuba diving or a deep-sea fishing adventure.
If nature is your thing, just get off the beaten track and explore. It’s well worth taking the 40-minute drive – or a tour – out to the hinterland. Here you will discover amazing mountain peaks, ancient rainforest, sparkling waterfalls and endless stretches of unspoiled bushland.
A visit to the Gold Coast hinterland is almost like stepping back in time, as you discover quaint little tea-rooms, antique shops, and art galleries. It’s also home to some very good wineries, so bring your spending money!
Upcoming Events
If major events are your thing, you’ll love the Gold Coast because there’s always something on, all year round, from major sporting events to the famous V8 Supercars.
And if you’re on a bit of a schedule, you’ll find your accommodation and services ideal, as it’s easy to knock up a quick snack at any hour, grab a cup of coffee or catch up on your sleep with a peaceful afternoon nap.
If you’re heading to the Gold Coast anytime soon, here are a few must-sees you should put in the diary.
For starters, June to November is a whale-watching season. Tours are available – or you just might be lucky enough to spot these beautiful creatures from the beach.
Also coming up is the Gold Coast Airport Marathon at the beginning of July, and the Broadbeach Jazz Festival on August 20-21.
Sports fans should note that the Gold Coast Suns will take on the Brisbane Lions on 9th July, Fremantle on 23rd July, and the GWS Giants on 6th August, all at the Metricon Stadium.
