For long, educational choices in India have remained stereotypical in their approach. Even after being the second biggest population in the world, India seems to have caught up in the loop of just two streams – Engineering and Medical.
Do you know, every year India produces approximately 1.6 million Engineers !! 1.6 million engineers! It’s twice the population of Bhutan entirely. Out of these humongous crowd of trained science people, only 10% are able to get a respectable job. There ought to be something wrong in our country. As a matter of fact, maybe we have forgotten there other professions also do exist.
Keeping up this noble thought in mind, I today thought of choosing articlesreader.com for introducing another career option for our youngsters. The profession I am introducing our readers is of Fashion Designing or Design as a whole.
What is the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT)?
NIFT or National Institute of Fashion Technology is a group of 16 similarly named fashion institutes in India set up under the Ministry of textiles by Govt. of India. The institutes were started off to feed the ever-increasing demand of skilled textile designers in the country. The first of this group of institutes was established in 1986 in the country’s capital of New Delhi. Since then, the institute has opened as many as 16 branches all over the country with the center remaining in Delhi. Currently, the institutes offer degree courses in designing, fashion tech, and management in various disciplines at its centers.
NIFTs are like the IITs in their field. Though they are lesser in number than IITs, still they happen to cater well to the needs of Indian designing aspirants, because there aren’t very much. If you consider ranking the country’s best fashion designing institutes, you’ll surely have the NIFTs at the top of the ladder. Apart from having a writer praise these institutes on articlesreader.com, the institute also boasts of one of the finest alumni in the country. The list of notable alumni at NIFTs include the following:
- Ritu Beri, a famous designer.
- Gulshan Devaiah, Actor.
- Neha Sharma, Actor.
- Rohit Bal, a famous designer.
How to Get into NIFTs?
As I mentioned above, NIFTs are like IITs in their field, hence by this comparison, you can figure out that the entrance exam is also tough.
Well for admissions to NIFTs, you need to go through a 2 or 3 step entrance process depending on the course you are applying for.
- For UG courses, the applicant must not be older than 23 years of age and must have passed 12th std.
- For PG courses, the applicant must bear a graduation degree.
