Before the rapid development of technology in this era, people who often had tired eyes were workaholics, working from the morning until late at night, with stacks of paper and folders piling up on the table. In short, they are people with high work demands. But that was then! Tired eyes are now often experienced by many people, both young and old. Starting from an increasingly sophisticated computer, to the new launch of the Play Station, or the Harry Potter book that people are addicted to reading, online games such as Dota, drama series like Game of Thrones and the most recent gadgets with unlimited internet access – all of which could make your eyes become tired because the muscles of the eye are forced to work hard, especially when looking at objects up close for a long period of time.
When your eyes are tired (also called asthenopia), the pupil of the eye will be slow to react to light caused by overexposure. Results from research in America and Japan shows that people who stare at the screen of gadgets for four hours or more a day are at risk of experiencing tired eyes. In a single day, other than staring at your computer, you also check your gadgets, read and play games. In a blink of an eye, our eyes become tired without us even noticing. Here are 5 ways to ease your tired eyes:
Download Blue Light Filter Applications In Your Gadget
When you stare at the screen of your gadgets, your eyes are exposed to blue light that can make your eyes become tired. Blue light filter applications such as ELECOM Browser Free (blue light filter) and Unblue will help reduce the light on the screen of your gadget. In addition, you can also set your own brightness to fit your comfort. By downloading the application, you can also save battery because the power that is used in your display is reduced.
Follow the 20-20-20 Formula
This formula was suggested by Dr. Revino Ikhsan, SpM, SMEC optician from the Philippines. He suggested that after you read or stare at a computer screen or gadget for 20 minutes, rest your eyes for 20 seconds by looking at things that are 20 feet or 6 meters away. The goal is to refreshen your eyes. Don’t forget to blink, especially for those of you who are watching or playing video games, often because of the fun you rarely blink, hence your eyes become dry.
Compress Your Eyes
To ease your tired eyes, there are various ways you can compress your eyes such as using tea bags, sliced cucumber, cold milk, rose water or a cold spoon. It is believed that a cold tea bag can ease tired eyes. The trick is to take 2 fruit tea bags that have been brewed and have become cold and place them on your eyelids. For sliced cucumbers, place slices of cucumber on the eyelids for 15-20 minutes. Another way is to dip a cotton ball in cold milk or cold rose water, then apply it on your eyelids. If you do not have the ingredients as mentioned, the easiest way is to use a spoon. Save the spoons in the refrigerator to cool, then put it on your eyelids. Hmmm, you’ll feel refreshed and relaxed!
Prepare Eye Drops
Reading or using gadgets too long can make your eyes tired and dry. Always prepare eye drops with a refreshing and rehydrating function for the damming of your eyes. According to a survey from iPrice, 84% of people use eye drops only when a doctor prescribes it to them.
Massage Your Eyes
Massage your eyes so that it becomes more relaxed! How? Massage the area around your eyes in a circular and one-way, from the eyelid to the bottom of the eye. This will make your eyes fresh, light and comfortable.
